Meet the Doctor

Curtis_Bio_Final.jpgMy decision to become a chiropractor came after an auto accident left me with crushing headaches and neck pain. The pain and muscle-relaxing medications I was prescribed had little to no effect on the pain. About the time I had begun to think my condition was permanent, a friend referred me to his chiropractor. I agreed to an initial exam, thinking, “Why not? Nothing else is working.”

What first struck me about the exam was that the chiropractor did an amazing job of listening. After a thorough exam, he took the time to explain how the accident had caused a misalignment in my spine and how chiropractic could possibly correct the problem. Within a few days of treatment the blinding headaches were gone, and in a few weeks something really weird happened: I noticed that I didn’t need my Asthma medications anymore. I had suffered with Asthma since childhood and usually needed an inhaler every couple of hours, but suddenly those symptoms were gone. This may sound strange, but if for your entire life you’ve had an inhaler in your pocket, and one day you just don’t need it anymore, there aren’t words to describe the surprise and relief I felt.

I went back to my new chiropractor and asked him if there was any way Chiropractic could help with Asthma. Again, the doc took the time to explain the nervous system and how it controls every part of the body. Again he showed me the misalignments in my spine and pointed out the nerves going to the lungs. Never once did the chiropractor take credit for helping the Asthma or, for that matter, the headaches and neck pain. Instead, he assured me that the body can heal itself if there is no interference.

My experience with this doctor inspired me to become a chiropractor. I thought that if I could help one kid have the active, healthy lifestyle that I missed out on, it would all be worthwhile.
